The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is the nation's leading voice promoting equity and education for women and girls. Since our founding in 1881, AAUW members have examined and taken positions on the fundamental issues of the day - educational, social, economic, and political.
AAUW-SF is committed to supporting our community by increasing opportunities for women & girls, initiating collaborations and mentorships & providing leadership for community impact.

The San Francisco Branch of AAUW is the second oldest branch in the United States, organized in 1886 as the Pacific Organization of Collegiate Alumnae. It later became the California Branch ACA and The San Francisco Bay Branch of AAUW. The Branch was and still is a pioneer in expanding women’s roles in California education.
"AAUW promotes equity for all women and girls, lifelong education and positive societal change." AAUW, founded in 1881, is open to all graduates with an associate degreeor the equivalent from educational institutions that offer recognized associate, baccalaureate, or higher degrees. In principle and practice AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, disability or class.
