The San Francisco Branch of AAUW is the second oldest branch in the United States, organized in 1886 as the Pacific Organization of Collegiate Alumnae. It later became the California Branch ACA and The San Francisco Bay Branch of AAUW. The Branch was and still is a pioneer in expanding women’s roles in California education.

AAUW, founded in 1881, is open to all graduates with an associate degree or the equivalent from educational institutions that offer recognized associate, baccalaureate, or higher degrees.
