Women's Suffrage Events

Saturday, October 15th, 1 pm at San Francisco Main Library, Koret Auditorium. Celebrate the Centennial of Women's Suffrage in California. San Francisco AAUW joins the San Francisco Public Library in presenting a talk by historian and author Jessica Ellen Sewell. In Women and the Everyday City, Sewell explores the lives of women in turn-of-the-century San Francisco. Sewell shows how changes in the city affected women's ability to negotiate shifting gender norms as well as how women's increasing use of the city played a critical role in the campaign for women's suffrage. Sewell's book will be for sale following the program.

Walking Tour
From 3-5 pm
, after the talk, Jessica Sewell will lead a walking tour of significant San Francisco locations of the 1911 woman suffrage campaign. Meet at the Fulton Street steps, Main Library. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.

International Book Group
