Women's Suffrage Events

Saturday, October 15^th, 1 pm at San Francisco Main Library, Koret Auditorium. Celebrate the Centennial of Women's Suffrage in California. San Francisco AAUW joins the San Francisco Public Library in presenting a talk by historian and author Jessica Ellen Sewell. In Women and the Everyday City, Sewell explores the lives of women in turn-of-the-century San Francisco. Sewell shows how changes in the city affected women's ability to negotiate shifting gender norms as well as how women's increasing use of the city played a critical role in the campaign for women's suffrage. Sewell's book will be for sale following the program.

Walking Tour
From 3-5 pm, after the talk, Jessica Sewell will lead a walking tour of significant San Francisco locations of the 1911 woman suffrage campaign. Meet at the Fulton Street steps, Main Library. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
