The AAUW Educational Foundation provides funds to advance education, research and self-development for women and girls, and to foster equity and positive societal change. Each year the foundation provides more than $3 million in fellowships and grants.
AAUW-SF has scholarship funds available for women who are within one year of completion of their undergraduate or upper degree courses of study. To qualify they must either live or attend school within 100 miles of San Francisco.
The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund (LAF) provides funding and a support system for women in higher education seeking judicial redress for sex discrimination. LAF is the nation’s largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in higher education. State Legal Advocacy Fund
The Gender Equity chair and committee bring the gender equity research and activism of national down to the local level. Branch members are kept up-to-date with current research and issues. Community assistance is offered to local schools, agencies and other organizations to educate people on gender equity.
The Branch raises money to sends girls to a math and science camp at a local university for a week each summer. Seventh grade science teachers nominate girls. The nominated girls are sent application forms, and those who complete and return the forms are interviewed. The committee then deliberates and picks the girls who will go
The Public Policy chair (Sheila Bost) helps the branch to be aware of government issues from local to international. Branch members are kept up-to-date with current research and issues. Sheila hosts meetings to discuss ballot propositions prior to each election. California Public Policy Information
